About Us
In December 2021 two existing Masorti communities merged - Edgware Masorti Synagogue and Elstree & Borehamwood Masorti Community to form South Herts and Edgware Masorti (SHEMA). We hold services in both Edgware and Borehamwood. We are a friendly, growing community and welcome people of all levels of observance. Our services are traditional and we use the Masorti Sim Shalom prayer book in Borehamwood and Singers in Edgware. We have mixed seating and equal participation in services for both men and women in Borehamwood. We hold weekly Shabbat morning services with special activities for children, frequent communal meals, and special services and social events on Jewish holidays. Our services are led by our members and visiting Rabbis, and everyone is encouraged to get involved.

Our aim is to grow and to provide more and better services for our members without losing the warmth and friendship that is so important to all of us.

-
We look for opportunities to connect to members and potential members; we aim to welcome them warmly and give them a sense of belonging to the community.
-
We come together to celebrate: to pray, play, support and care for one another and to take our part in the healing of the world.
-
We educate our members, from pre-school to adults, to deepen their knowledge of and commitment to Jewish life and community.
-
We depend on the participation and involvement of our members for our continued growth.
